Northern Notes Writers Festival
The Northern Notes Writers Festival (City
of Darebin) will take place in and around Northcote Town Hall,
19-22 November 2009.
Clouds of Magellan and
Trojan Press
present:
‘Northern Stories’ Writing Competition

Writers and photographers are invited to submit:
- short
stories (fiction, memoir, graphic fiction, chapters from
novels in development)
- poetry
- cover image (photograph)
for an anthology of stories about the northern suburbs of
Melbourne.
All winning entries will be published in a book to be launched
during the Northern Notes Writers Festival (Thursday evening, 19
November 2009). Those to be published will be invited to a
publishing and editing workshop focusing on the anthology in
September. The title will be distributed in Australia through
Dennis Jones and Associates, Bulldog Books, and available
online.
- No word limit
- One item only per entrant, but poets may send in a sequence of
poems that are on-theme

pictures - maximum of five
- There
is no genre limitation. The subject can be contemporary,
or historical, but needs to communicate a sense of the
locality

Subject line: 'Northern Stories, Your Name, Title
- Photos must be high-resolution, but send as
your entry a small jpg
only 300 px wide, or a specific link to an image sharing site
- Material must be previously unpublished (internet excepted)
- Stories will be selected by an editorial panel from Clouds of
Magellan and all decisions by the panel will be final
- In your email submission, please include all relevant contact
details
- All entrants
published will receive 10 free copies of
the book on the night of the launch (19 November) - you have to
pick them up then or during the festival (interstate
entrants excepted)
- Closing date for entries:
10 July 2009.

Events during the Festival:
Thornbury-based Clouds of Magellan will host some book launches during
the festival, in addition to the Northern Stories Writing Competition. Watch
this space.
In 2008, Clouds of Magellan ran a novel/story competition as part of the
Festival - the winning published work was Georgina Scillio's
A Dandelion on the Roof & Other Stories.
