Beyond Crucifixion --
Beth R. Crisp

ISBN: 9780980712032, RRP: $24.95
Beyond Crucifixion: Lenten meditations on surviving
sexual abuse by Beth R. Crisp
Beth Crisp found herself challenged one Ash Wednesday to
confront the reality of sexual abuse in her life. In
Beyond Crucifixion she draws on the daily bible readings
from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, combining them with the
words of many survivors, to explore the path from
desperation to hope.
The book acknowledges the many hurdles which survivors of
sexual abuse need to overcome, but it also refutes the
notion that sexual abuse need ever be the final word and
invites readers to grasp the promise of resurrection
Beth R. Crisp is a
Melbourne-based writer, currently working as Associate
Professor of Social Work at Deakin University. As a scholar,
much of her work focuses on marginalisation and social
exclusion. She is particularly interested in spirituality
for people who find themselves on the margins of the church
or wider society.

'Beth Crisp's book of meditations is a wonderful
resource. It allows the reader to sink gradually
into the vulnerability of being healed by God
through the process of praying through the Lenten
readings. The shape of the Church of the future is
surely to be found in the shared life and communion
of those like Beth and the rich array of
story-tellers to whom she introduces us. She points
us towards discovering, and finding ourselves held
by, the loving tenderness of God in the midst of a
regular Catholic life cycle, and she bears a
striking witness to that love, one that helps move
us beyond being scandalised by so much in the Church
and in family lives that is abusive and
destructive.' -- James Alison, priest and theologian
